Summer
Courses at the Yarner Trust
Some interesting courses are on offer at the Yarner Trust this summer.
If you like using your hands in a creative way, then why not have a try at
weaving your own Cornish Craust Basket,
a
beautiful rectangular basket that was the traditional home for a Cornishman’s
lunch. For those determined to do their bit to help us live more sustainably,
there’s a new course on setting up your own sewerage system, with Reed
Bed Filtration. This is a natural system providing an economical alternative
to septic tanks, and can be installed in a large garden or smallholding, to
enhance diversity. If you’re dreaming of running your own smallholding
one day, and would like a glimpse of what’s in store for you, why not
come to author Alan Beat’s Self Sufficiency course. As well as looking
at raising food on organic principles, it includes visits to established smallholdings
and examines the potential for earned income. As always there’s plenty
more happening at the Yarner Trust with opportunities for volunteers, school
projects and summer camp in August. Please visit www.yarnertrust.org or call
01288-331692 for more details.
Courses: Cornish Craust Baskets 17-18th July £60, Reed Bed Filtration
19th July £35 and Smallholding and Self Sufficiency 23-25th August £105.
