Childrens Group

About Us
Welcombe Children's Group was formed in 2006 by a group of parents in order to set up events and activities for the children in the parish and to improve the facilities for them.

The committee are:
Chairperson - Emma Morrison
Secretary - Helen Bence
Treasurer - Alice Gare.

Since setting up the group we have held an annual Easter Party and Halloween Party. We have also held a number of craft days and fundraising events. We hope to increase and develop the events and activities we put on and would welcombe any ideas or suggestions. With the help of grants we have set up the Welcombe Children's Playground. We received £7,500 from the 'Devon Community Foundation', which paid for the low level obstacle course, fencing and picnic benches. We received £12,000 from the Lottery's 'Awards for All' Grant for the play unit with slide and £5,000 from the 'Devon Playing Fields Association' towards the safety surface.

Alice and David at the pottery organised for all the children in the village to make a handprint tile which is now displayed on the wall inside the playarea. The new hedge inside the playarea was kindly donated by a local resident and the children have planted bulbs around the borders.

Please come with your children and enjoy.

Beaford Arts Children's Events
The children enjoyed two fantastic performances this autumn through Beaford Arts.
The first was a puppet show 'Malina's Dream' by Angel Heart Theatre, a magical tale told with beautifully hand-crafted wooden puppets and shadow puppets.
The second was a dance performance 'The Jingle Dress' by Mini Mission. The children were spellbound by the beautiful dancing and enjoyed participating as the story reached its ending where the girl finally got her dress that jingles.
Children between two and twelve enjoyed both events and benefitted from the opportunity to experience professional theatre and dance in their own village hall.
Profits from the snacks sold went towards the village hall appeal fund. A big thank you to all those who helped.
The next Beaford Arts Event to come to Welcombe will be:

Welcombe Family Arts Festival

Bideford Bay Children’s Centre (Sure Start) is there for families with children under the age of 5. As a family, you can use any of the services: some general, some specific to support you and your child/ren at different stages of your child’s life. Check out the website www.bidefordbaychildrenscentre.org.uk

The Centre values parent’s involvement: a great way of getting involved in the services for you and your child/baby is to join our FABB Group.

FABB – Families Action for Bideford Bay is a Community Action Group supporting and participating in the services for children under 5.

FABB are a group of proactive parents, carers, grandparents and community representatives that care about the wellbeing of children and the provision of services and amenities in our communities, from Bideford and surrounding areas right the way from Westward Ho! to Welcombe. FABB hold monthly meetings with a crèche facility provided by Bideford Bay Children’s Centre.

Come and have a say about issues affecting your child’s community and the needs of children under 5, and be part of a proactive response to this.
