The
Old Smithy Inn
reopened at Easter 2004 much to the relief of a very thirsty village! Real
ales are from Sharp's brewery and include Anvil ale, a brew specially selected
for The Old Smithy. Chefs Lee and Chris prepare a variety of interesting dishes
made using quality locally sourced ingredients. Chrissy and Lee have set about
restoring some character to this lovely thatched pub by using local artist's
and photographer's work to decorate the walls and reintroducing roaring log
fires.
Support
our local pub this winter
As Chrissy's mum, I would like to thank all those locals who have loyally
supported Chrissy and Lee over the past (almost) 5 years, it is much appreciated.
I'm sure you would all agree that they have done a great job in re-establishing
our lovely thatched pub as a warm and friendly hub of our community. They
are probably the biggest employer in the village having provided many, especially
our young people, with valuable experience, as well as income, without having
the cost and problems of transport out of the village. They provide the only
place in the village where we can regularly meet up with friends over a pint
or even a cup of tea. A place where we can listen to live music, join in a
quiz, or enjoy a delicious candlelit meal. We are very lucky to still be able
to do this! In many parts of the country village pubs are closing. During
the early part of 2008 the number was 5 a day. With the recession, this has
probably risen significantly. We know what it was like when the pub was closed
before. If we were to lose it again it would be a tragic loss to the social
and economic fabric of our community. With this in mind I would like to ask
you all to support Chrissy and Lee this winter, especially in the dark days
of January and February. Why not try their 'Cheap food night' on
a Wednesday or their tasty Sunday roast.
If you haven't already used your 20% off voucher from the last Church newsletter
there is still time up until 1st March. If everyone in the village went for
a meal just once in the next few weeks it would make a tremendous difference.
