Volunteer Wanted:
Would any one be interested in giving up a few hours every other week to help provide lunch in the Village Hall for our lunch club. Its great fun to do - no previous experience necessary! Contact
01288 331561 for a chat.

Video Library Club - The volunteers who run the Video & DVD club in the Village Hall very much regret that due to falling numbers they are unable to continue this fundraiser for the time being. Unfortunately, we are unable to purchase new DVDs to add to the stock unless we have at least 8 videos let out each week. We are now well below this number. It is hoped that we can revive this service in the Autumn, or, if you would like to take a video at any other time, please telephone either Maryanne on 331 550 or Jane on 331 561 and we will try to arrange a mutually convenient time to open up the Video cupboard.

Welcombe & Meddon WI. are a lively group of ladies who meet at 7.30 pm on the first Tuesday of each month. Most meetings this year are to be held at Welcombe Village Hall commencing at 7.30 pm.

A branch of the Women’s Institute was formed here in Welcombe on the 8th December 1932. The elected committee at that time were Mrs. Wheeler, President, Mrs. Clark Vice-president, Mrs. Bond Teasurer, Miss Clark Secretary, Mrs. Dennis, Mrs. E. Oke and Miss Ward being the remaining Committee members. For unknown reasons (does anyone know why?) this WI was dissolved a year later and on the same evening the United Womens Guild was formed.

On the 22nd March 1934 the Meddon & Welcombe WI was formed and has continued from strength to strength since that time.

If you would like to come along to a meeting you would be most welcome. Please telephone our secretary for further information on 01288 331 599.

Welcombe Bellringers meet at the Church at 7.30 to 9.00pm on Monday evenings.
Currently 'learning the ropes' at an amazing rate of knots are, James Hill, Keith
Funnel, Angela Horswill and Michael Horswill. Several others have expressed an interest in learning but cannot make Monday nights, so we intend doing something
about that later in the year. David Conway and Howard Pankhurst are currently teaching the learners, with occasional help from Steven Yeomans, Rosemary Lauder and Anne Wells. Denis O'Dell regularly tolls the '5 minute bell' you may have heard on Sunday mornings when we do not ring more than that, and Denis is always one of our band when we do manage to ring properly for a service. There are other ringers in the village who are not ringing regularly at the moment, but who I am sure will start again once we get to ringing regularly. If you are interested in learning this ancient and fascinating hobby, contact:
01288 331273 or David Conway 01288 331574

Welcombe Spinners & Weavers
This well established group meets most Mondays at Welcombe Barton throughout the year. Their shared inerests include spinning, weaving, natural and synthetic dyeing and feltmaking. They organise an interesting programme of visiting tutors, share their skills and exhibit and demonstrate locally. If you would like to join them please contact Pauline on 01237 441 861.

The Stitch & Chat Group

This informal group meets on Wednesday mornings at The Barton and welcomes new members with an interest in any forms of stitching. Patchwork and quilting, embroidery and knitting are just some of the crafts that the members share. For more information call Ann on 01237 441 871.

The Skittles Club season runs from September to March. The club is part of the Bideford League and teams of six play in the skittle alley at the village hall. The men play on Mondays and the ladies play at home on Thursdays with away matches often on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
