Volunteer
Drivers Needed
Torridge
Community Transport Association is seeking car drivers to be part of their
valuable service. Torridge CTA is a charity which arranges local travel for
those whose transport options are limited. Volunteers use their own car to
get folk from A to B, typically for shopping, health appointments etc. Expenses
are paid at 40p per mile and volunteers are covered by public liability insurance
and have a free police check. There are no additional costs on the drivers
car insurance. Existing
volunteer drivers say they enjoy getting out and meeting and helping passengers
who are grateful for the service which enables them to do all the everyday
things which we all need to go out of the house for.
If you can spare a little time and would like to help others in this way please ring 01237 423232 or click here

Devon Carshare
Do you travel the same route to work everyday in a car on your own? Would
you like to reduce your travel costs and the wear and tear on your car? Why
not let www.carsharedevon.com help
you?
Almost three thousand people in Devon have already chosen to join up to www.carsharedevon.com. The matching service puts people travelling in the same direction or to a similar destination in contact with each other, allowing them to share costs and help reduce congestion.
The scheme, which was launched in 2003, is free of charge and open to non-drivers. Simply register your details on the website at www.carsharedevon.com and the data base will automatically identify possible matches. It is then up to you to contact the travelling companions you choose, via email, and arrange to meet at a convenient location. Remember to bring identification with you.

The Bideford
Transport Group also runs a ‘Volunteer Driver’ scheme,
which covers the insurance and legal issues for individuals who make themselves
and their vehicle available to drive local people in need of transport. The
users of the service pay the drivers expenses and the cost of travel using
this scheme would be less expensive than standard taxi fares. In the recent
village survey, 22 people said they would be interested in taking part in
this scheme. If you are one of those people and would like to take this further,
Wheels2Work : is a scheme which can provide a subsidised motor scooter to individuals who live in rural areas and who are in need of transport to travel to work. If you are interested in this idea and think you may be eligeable, please have a look at www.devonwheels2work.co.uk, 'phone 0845 0944 308 or email admin@devonwheels2work.co.uk
