Welcombe Village Hall
Many thanks to everyone who came along to the quiz on 17th October, I do hope you enjoyed it. We managed to raise £100 towards the Village Hall even though I committed the unforgivable crime of not including a raffle! We will run another quiz next month (including a raffle) on 14th November so do make a note of it in your diary.

Update of Constitution. It is important our governing document is up to date before we apply for a variety of grants to match our own fundraising. A number of small amendments will be dealt with by special resolution at the AGM, including reduction of Horticultural Show representation from 2 to 1, addition of representatives from the Community Shop and Yarner Trust, change of name from Welcombe Playschool to Welcombe Children’s Group, moving the AGM from April to June and making eligibility for voting at the AGM the same as the object of the charity, namely the Parish of Welcombe and its immediate vicinity. It is hoped we can also add the Toddler Group to the list of representative organisations.
Planning
Consent. Planning permission has just been received for the refurbishment
of the existing hall (phase 1) and the later extension to the west (phase
2).

The separate Building
Regulations approval is expected shortly.
Timetable for Implementation. The next target is the submission of grant applications to the Community Council of Devon, other public agencies and a number of private trusts by the end of June. To achieve this, quotations will be sought for the phase 1 works on the basis of the approved building regulations. If anyone out there is interested in quoting for any aspect of the phase 1 works or may know someone who is, please do contact Keith on 331732. It will take at least two months for grant applications to be decided and hopefully some implementation will commence this autumn.
Letters of Support. To give the grant applications the best possible chance, local organisations and interested parties have been asked to forward letters of support and confirmation of their participation in the improvement programme. If you have not been approached or not yet been apply to reply, there is still time. A short response, preferably on headed paper, should explain what the improved facilities would mean for your organisations/interests and how individual uses would be enhanced and possibly increase (to Ash House Welcombe EX39 6HH please).
County Councillor Grant. We have recently received a Devon County Council grant of £1500 towards the refurbishment of the hall via our Liberal Democrat County Councillor Humphrey Temperley. He has already assisted with financial aid for the new Children’s Playground and we are very grateful for his continuing support.
Raffle of Fine Art. John Moat has very kindly agreed to arrange a raffle of some 5 pieces of art work. The idea is to start the raffle in July and have the draw at the Salomagundi in December. Details will be discussed at the next village hall committee meeting on 10th June.
Update
of Appeal Leaflet. The appeal leaflet has recently been updated thanks
to Mike Stubbs, so that it is now consistent with current plans and costs
and a copy is available on the website. If you would like to make a contribution
or know of someone who might, it would be really appreciated. The current
total is around £40,000 and our objective is to get as near as possible
to £50,000, which is about half the cost of the phase 1 works.
