We are moving both the date and venue of St Nectan’s Church Fete this year to the Village Hall on Saturday 27th June. We are also focusing on making the fete more fun and enjoyable for the family and community with more traditional country games and activities.
You will still be able to enjoy a traditional Devon cream tea. We will also be selling wonderful home made cakes and locally grown plants and handmade crafts that are so popular. Holding the fete in June will provide us with an opportunity to reflect the feast of St Nectan, the patron saint of the Church, in the fete.
Please save the date in your diary and come and enjoy this valued community event
Over the past years there have been two big challenges to running the fete in Bell Park.
The first is the difficulty in finding volunteers to help. The common issues were the fete being in on a work day and the summer holidays were an issue for those with families. We hope the Saturday date will enable more people to help. If you would like to help please email Richard at richard@darracott.farm.
The second was the dramatically increasing cost of the marquee which is rapidly heading towards costing half of the fete takings. Alternatives have been trialled such as gazebos but they don't stand up to the wind. We simply can't ignore that the Village Hall provides superb, accessible facilities that enable us to run the fete even if we don't get an uplift in volunteers.
